Interesting. My initial thought was correct but my Google searches kept pulling up images of the same generation but with the handbrake on the other side of the console which confused me. Google images seems to indicate they changed the console sometime in 2005 or 2006, never knew that.

The something different you are seeing is that the handbrake is on the wrong side compared to your Bugeye. Apparently Subaru swapped which side the handbrake was on in 2005 or 2006. That threw me for a loop too.
